ITR filing

How it works
Message me
Send your name, PAN and the kinds of income you had in the year on WhatsApp.
Share documents
Form 16, bank interest certificates, Form 26AS and the Annual Information Statement. The list is below.
Review the computation
You see income, deductions and tax payable or refund before anything is filed.
File and e-verify
The return is filed on the income tax portal. You complete e-verification yourself from your own registered mobile number.
Documents to keep ready
Not every item applies to everyone.
For everyone
- PAN and Aadhaar, with PAN linked to Aadhaar
- Bank account number and IFSC code
- Mobile number and email registered on the income tax portal
Salaried
- Form 16 from each employer
- Salary slips if Form 16 is not available
- Investment proofs for 80C, 80D and similar deductions
Business and professionals
- Profit and loss and balance sheet, or turnover details
- Bank statements for the year
- GST returns if registered
Due dates
For most individuals who do not need an audit, the normal due date is 31 July after the end of the financial year, and the government sometimes extends it. Filing late can attract a fee and interest and can limit loss carry-forward. Check the current date on incometax.gov.in or ask me.
Beware of calls that threaten arrest over tax. The income tax department does not demand payment by phone. The official e-filing helpline is 1800 103 0025.
